Time to Exhale: Cocoa Tariffs Removed!
The Fine Chocolate Industry Association (FCIA) is pleased that tariffs on cocoa have been removed, as of November 13, 2025.
We’re pleased to share significant news that directly affects our member community: the U.S. government has officially removed tariffs on cocoa, along with tariffs on coffee and several other imported foods and commodities. This change, effective November 13, 2025, comes at a crucial time, as chocolate makers and chocolatiers have been facing unprecedented cocoa prices due to weather impacts, speculation, and disease issues across major growing regions.

FCIA’s Role in the Advocacy Effort
This outcome was the result of months of coordinated effort and strong advocacy from many across the specialty food sector. FCIA worked closely with the National Confectioners Association (NCA) to present unified, data-driven arguments to policymakers on why these tariffs were harmful to U.S. chocolate businesses, especially small and mid-sized makers who rely on imported cocoa with no domestic alternative.
We also thank members such as Paul Picton of Maverick Chocolate, along with our broader network of chocolate professionals, who helped raise the visibility of this issue on Capitol Hill.
FCIA Working for You
This development is an example of the work FCIA is doing behind the scenes every day to strengthen the fine chocolate industry. While we’re proud to offer valuable programs such as festival discounts, educational webinars, and networking opportunities, we want members to know that our commitment goes much deeper.
Advocacy on critical industry issues, like tariffs, transparency, supply chain access, and regulatory challenges, is a core part of your membership value.
We will continue to monitor and engage on the remaining tariffs affecting Brazilian cocoa, and we’ll keep members informed as negotiations progress.
Thank you for being part of our community and for contributing to the strength, integrity, and growth of the fine chocolate movement.
If you have questions or would like to share how these tariff changes affect your business, we welcome your input.
